“It’s Them They Know, Not Me…”

What is your favorite genre of music?

Anything written by Tyler Joseph and Twenty-one Pilots. He speaks my heart. (So ALLL the genres!!)

EXCEPT COUNTRY.

I give my attention to what I deem worthy…annnd that’s pretty much (and I mean, again: including Operas) every “type” and style of music. But listen carefully; this is crucial: NO COUNTRY!!! None.

My dad listens to Country Music.

I used to be so confused. He and I used to listen to Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and rock opera’s like Jesus Christ Superstar and mock Country music. Like consistently… My dad taught me my love of Classic Rock.

My grandpa listened to country; when he drove around in his little teal truck; when he drove the school bus;when he sat at the dinner table.

But my Grandpa was dying and the last time I saw him was two weeks before his first grandson was born. He traveled on to the next adventure shortly after his brother, who had lived in the farmhouse with him his whole life.

My mom and dad took care of them faithfully, and my dad ended up getting the truck in the will.

He didn’t move the dial far, because that was his DAD’s truck, and Grandpa listened to country music.

My dad listened to Country until the truck was unusable then he did something that blows my mind. He bought his own (much bigger) truck. On the way home from the truck dealership, my dad turned the dial to Grandpa’s Country.

My dad and I might not share musical tastes anymore, but if you had asked WHAT’S the best music in the world?

That’s easy.

The best music in the world? My dad playing guitar and singing to me in my kitchen. They are songs and moments that I will never forget or get back.

That’s ok. We were meant to move on.

It’s not time to make a change
Just relax, take it easy
You’re still young, that’s your fault
There’s so much you have to know

Find a girl, settle down
If you want, you can marry
Look at me, I am old, but I’m happy

I was once like you are now
And I know that it’s not easy
To be calm when you’ve found something going on

And all the times that I’ve cried
Keeping all the things I knew inside
It’s hard, but it’s harder to ignore it!

If they were right, I’d agree
But it’s them they know, not me
Now, there’s a way and I know
That I have to go away
I know, I have to grow

And take your time, think a lot
Think of everthing you’ve got
For you will still be here tomorrow
But your dreams may not

How can I try to explain?
When I do, he turns away again
It’s always been the same
Same old story

From the moment I could talk
I was older to listen
Now, there’s a way and I know
That I have to go away
I know, I have to grow

I was once like you are now
And I know that it’s not easy
To be calm when you’ve found something going on

But take your time, think a lot
Think of everthing you’ve got
For you will still be here tomorrow
But your dreams may not

And all the times that I’ve cried
Keeping all the things I knew inside
It’s hard, but it’s harder to ignore it!

If they were right, I’d agree
But it’s them they know, not me
Now, there’s a way and I know
That I have to go away
I know, I have to grow
